Hi, my name is Rebecca. My story will probably be a little different than the other ones you read here. I graduated from high school in 2017 and like most people, I always had plans to go to college. All my friends were going away to school, my parents and teachers all assumed I would go to school, so I let everyone around me make that choice for me. When I got to college, I was a fashion merchandising major which was something that interested me, but I quickly realized that wasn't what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. While in college I did have a lot of fun. I met a lot of great people and it also helped me see the world differently than the small town I was raised in. I don't regret going to college at all because I'm very fortunate to have had that experience. So I stayed in college for a year, trying to figure out what career I wanted. I had so many meeting with advisors and counselors, yet nothing seemed to spark my interest. Then I remembered, I always loved the beauty industry. Makeup, hair, all of that. So I began to research the industry and learned I could go to trade school, and that college wasn't necessary for me. After one year of college, I dropped out and began esthetics school a few months later. Now, three years later I am working full time at a spa, starting to create my own products, and I'm actually happy with my job. I was always scared of having a boring job, or a job that I hated, or doing the same thing every day and I knew if I stayed in college that's exactly what would happen to me. By taking control of my life and really figuring out what I wanted, I realized I can do anything I set my mind to, even if it isn't conventional or easy. I think finding an industry that not only interests you, but gives you the ability to grow and learn is really important. I am constantly learning new things, and every day is different with my job.
